21 Weeks- Will Kick for Peanut Butter and bananas!!!!

Baby is now about three-quarters of a pound and is approximately 10 1/2 inches long — the length of a carrot.

Baby gulps down several ounces of amniotic fluid every day, both for hydration and nutrition and to practice swallowing and digesting. And, these days, those taste buds actually work! Studies show that after birth, babies are most interested in tastes they've already experienced through amniotic fluid.(source Bump)
Morning sickness- Sooo much better I still have some waves but gone are the days of laying on the couch all day trying to keep down a salted bagel!
Cravings and Aversions- Fruits and Veggies are in over drive lately! Strawberries, cherries, blueberries, raspberries, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli and potatoes in particular. No sweets except for the happy discovery that a DQ vanilla cone is OK on most days :)
The hospital Tour!- This isn't your Mothers maternity ward!!! We went on the hospital tour this week! Eeek! It was freaky getting a tour and realizing I would be having a baby right there soon!! I was offered the opportunity to watch a live birth movie after the tour to which I told a startled nurse, 'God no!! absolutely not!'
I was very pleasantly surprised by the unit. It looks more like a hotel than a hospital. Hard wood floors throughout with soothing colors and wall hangings. The ward only has private rooms, each equipped, with flat screen TVs and a convertible recliner/bed for Dad. Gone are the days of yucky hospital food, at Rex UNC Hospital you get to order 'room service' from a nice menu! Another nice feature is that babies room with mom. They are very big on Kangaroo care (skin to skin bonding) and baby goes with you everywhere you go including recovery and postpartum.  I learned on the tour that research shows that this helps regulate baby's heart rate, breathing and even blood sugar. You can ask a nurse to watch the baby if you need a nap or shower but they do not feed babies and will only have them for short periods of time. I was also impressed with the security system. Baby and mom wear anklets. If the baby goes past any other door frame other than the one in his room the entire floor locks down! Elevators stop, doors lock and no one gets in or out!
My favorite part of the tour was when the guide was showing us the labor and delivery room (also hard wood floors- I wanted to ask how the heck do they keep them so clean!!) and describing all of its features including various laboring tools including bars and balls. Jef with a bewildered look on his face  blurts out ' What the hell is a squatting ball!!!'. The nurse without missing a beat replied ' Good question, I don't know!!!' I don't think Jef is too keen on being in the delivery room, to be honest neither am I but I hear its mandatory for me!
In case you are wondering this is what a birthing ball looks like!

Baby G-  Here is my/his favorite breakfast: an English muffin with peanut butter and a mashed up banana. Kicking will commence almost immediately afterwards!

Most babies will move around after you eat or drink something sweet like orange juice. Not Baby G! He likes peanut butter and bananas and cherries. He will kick up a storm after I eat some.
Looking forward to:  Baby Care Class in August.
Not looking forward:  The North Carolina Summer heat. Its going to be 96 degrees today!
