His cousin Isabela is here
with us for a few weeks and Jefferson is totally enamored! He follows her
everywhere and copies everything she does. She is awesome with him and they are
having lots of fun together. We have been keeping busy at the pool, making
cupcakes and going to parks, museums and the zoo.
Jefferson’s language is really starting to take off. I had been keeping track of his words and at last count he had 75 but I have stopped keeping track and I estimate closer to 80+ now. English is currently ahead with about 60% of words and he has about 40% in Portuguese. He has not really begun to form sentences regularly, but he has put a couple of words together a few times.
I think his favorite words are iPad followed by iPhone!
He will often follow-up the English version with the Portuguese word i.e.
He’ll say, “Egg” followed by “Ovo”.
He can recognize some shapes, his favorite being dome. Funny story: I bought a book on shapes early on and noted to Jef that it had some shapes that were not commonly used by toddlers i.e. almond and dome and it was ridiculous that they were featured in the book. Of course the first shape Jefferson says is dome!
He is also counting up to 5.
Jefferson is so friendly and social he will walk up to kids, wave and say, “Hi”! When they don’t respond he will try “Hola”! It is pretty hilarious. Unfortunately, most kids do not respond!! It seems to be a new-age phenomena, kids today are really lacking in social skills. The majority of kids will either not respond or look confused when greeted. I wonder if this is the result of too much television or Internet time or simply parents not teaching social skills?
Overall, at 21 months Jefferson is happy and pretty much always smiling!
